You’ve written the article, saved it, and yet the page stubbornly refuses to show it, or shows only its title. This is nearly always one of the checks below, starting with the most common.
Working through the checks
-
Check it’s actually published. A draft is only visible in the web office, and an article with a publish date in the future, or an expiry date in the past, won’t show either; scheduling an article explains the dates.
-
If the article appears only as a title you have to click, or the group’s page looks empty, that’s the group homepage at work: a group’s page displays one designated article in full (marked with a small house icon in the web office) and lists the rest. To make your article the one that appears in full, set it as the group homepage article.
-
If an article that used to show has vanished, ask whether someone recently set a different article as the group homepage: doing so unpublishes the previous homepage article. It isn’t lost; find it on the group’s Documents tab and publish it again.
-
Check who’s allowed to see it. If the article’s visibility is restricted, anyone not logged in, or not in the right group, sees nothing, and that includes you when you check the site in a browser where you’re logged out; choosing who can see an article covers the settings.
-
Check it’s in the group you think it’s in. A group’s page only shows articles that belong to that group, so an article created in the wrong place will be showing up somewhere else entirely, quite happily.
Good to know
-
Title-and-summary is the normal display for every article that isn’t the homepage article, not a fault, so a strong summary matters: it’s what persuades people to click through.
-
If you want an article prominent without making it the group homepage, featuring it is the tool for that job.
