How to schedule an article to publish or expire

Some pages don’t need to be on your site forever. A Christmas services page, a holiday club sign-up or a term-time notice can all be set to appear and disappear on dates you choose, so you can set them up in advance and forget about them.

Scheduling an article

  1. Log in to your web office, select the group that holds the article, open the Documents tab and click the article’s title.
  2. Open the Properties tab.
  3. Set the publish date to the day you want the article to appear on your site.
  4. Set a removal date if you want it to come off the site automatically. Choose from the preset options or pick a specific date. Leave it unset and the article stays up indefinitely.
  5. Make sure the ‘Publishing Status’ is set to ‘Published’, then click ‘Save’. The dates take care of the rest.

Good to know

  • An article past its removal date isn’t deleted. Edit the dates and it comes straight back, so seasonal pages can be reused year after year.
  • The schedule only runs on published articles; a draft stays hidden whatever its dates say.
  • If a page has vanished from your site unexpectedly, an expired removal date is one of the most common causes and worth checking first.
