How to import giving from your bank statement

Standing orders, bank transfers, and cheques paid straight into the bank can be brought into Hubb from your bank statement, so your giving records stay complete without typing every line. Once you’ve done it a couple of times, Hubb remembers who’s who and the whole job takes minutes.

Importing giving from a bank statement

1. Download your bank statement as a CSV file, then tidy it: delete the rows you don’t want to import (outgoings, non-donation income), leaving only income that relates to an individual.
2. In the Finance area, open the Payment Imports tab and use the ‘+’ icon (or the tasks) to add a new CSV import. The dialogue includes a link showing the column details it expects and a sample CSV file to download, so you can match your file to the right shape.
3. Upload your file, choose whether to ignore the first row if it holds headings, click ‘Continue’, and give the import a title and description.
4. Match each line to a person. The first time through, every line says ‘Pick a registration’: click it, find the person who paid, then either pick their existing registration or create a new one by choosing the payment group and option the income belongs to. Matched lines come back ticked for import; leave any lines you don’t want and they’ll simply be ignored.
5. Tick ‘Save Match’ on each line you want Hubb to remember. Next time, lines with the same bank reference match themselves, which is what makes month two so much faster.
6. Click ‘Save’ if you want to finish later, or the ‘Import Payments’ button when you’re ready to bring the payments in.
