As well as email, Hubb can send SMS text messages to anyone in your database with a mobile number, ideal for a short, urgent reminder that needs to be seen today. This guide covers getting set up and sending your first text.
Sending a text message
Read this before you text
Texts cost your church money: each message uses at least one SMS credit, charged to your monthly bill, and a text can’t be recalled once it’s sent. Messages over 160 characters, or sent to numbers abroad, can use more than one credit. Be careful who you give the SMS permission to, because anyone who holds it can spend on your behalf.
-
Get SMS switched on for your site. It isn’t enabled by default, so raise a support ticket to request it. At the same time, ask us for a keyword: the sender name your texts appear from, up to 11 characters, and best kept to letters and numbers, as anything else delivers patchily and we’ll usually have to decline it.
-
Make sure you hold the SMS mailing permission. It sits with the Administration permissions, and it’s granted the same way as any other permission.
-
Start a mailing as normal and choose your recipients. Alongside the usual correspondence methods you’ll now see an SMS option for anyone with a mobile number.
-
Choose SMS, continue to the step where you write your message, keep it short, and send.
Good to know
-
SMS charges appear on your monthly bill under your site’s billing settings. For current rates, raise a support ticket and we’ll confirm them.
-
There’s a daily sending limit (100 texts by default) to protect you from surprise costs. If you need more, ask us and we can raise it.
-
Members can pick texts as their preferred way to hear from you if you enable SMS as a correspondence method on the relevant mailing channel.
