Why isn't my event showing?

You’ve added an event, but someone says they can’t see it. Nine times out of ten it’s one of the checks below, and they take a couple of minutes to run through in order.

Working through the checks

  1. Check the event exists where you think it does. In the web office, open the Events tab of the group and find it in the calendar. Remember the web office shows every event on the site; only the ones in your current group are bold and underlined.
  2. Check the date and time. An event accidentally created in the wrong month, or last year, is more common than you’d think.
  3. Check the visibility. Scroll to the Advanced area of the event: is it inheriting the group’s setting, or overridden? Then check the group itself under Group Settings in the Access area. Our guide on who can see an event explains how the settings fit together.
  4. Check as the person would see it. Log out (or use a private browser window) and look at the calendar. If the event appears when you’re logged in but not when you’re logged out, visibility is your answer.
  5. If it’s a page that should list the event, check where that page’s calendar module draws from: an event in the wrong group won’t show on a page pointed at a different one.
  6. In the app, remember featured events change the list: if any events are featured, only featured events show in the featured list.

Good to know

  • ‘Missing’ events are almost never lost; they’re usually in the wrong group, restricted to members, or filtered out of the view being looked at.
  • If you’ve run all the checks and it still doesn’t add up, raise a ticket and tell us the event name and where you expected to see it; that detail speeds everything up.
