How to create and publish an article

Articles are the pages of your website. Every welcome page, notice and news story on your site is an article sitting inside a group, so creating one is the most useful skill in the web office. This guide takes you from a blank page to a published one.

Creating and publishing an article

  1. Log in to your web office.
  2. In the group structure on the left, select the group where you want the new page to live.
  3. Open the Documents tab to see the pages already in that group.
  4. Click the blue ‘+’ button at the bottom right and choose ‘An Article’.
  5. Add your text in the contents view. You can type straight in, just as you would in a word processor, or use ‘Paste as Plain Text’ on the toolbar to bring in text you’ve written elsewhere without any stray formatting.
  6. Open the Properties tab and give the article a title and a short summary. The summary is what shows next to the title wherever the article appears in a list.
  7. Click ‘Preview’ at the top right to see the page exactly as visitors will.
  8. When you’re happy, set the ‘Publishing Status’ to ‘Published’ and click ‘Save’.

Good to know

  • You can save at any point and come back later. Unpublished work waits in the group’s intray until you’re ready.
  • The ‘Save’ button turns orange when there are unsaved changes and green once everything is saved, so you can tell at a glance.
  • A new article doesn’t automatically appear in your site’s menu. Set it as the group’s homepage article if it’s the main page for that area, or let the group’s article list link to it.
  • You can also publish from the quick options menu (the three dots to the right of the article’s name) under the Documents tab.
