How to give someone Site Settings permissions

Site Settings permissions are the administrator level of your Hubb site: settings, finance, reports and the design templates. Most people helping with your site will never need them. This guide covers granting them to the few who do.

Granting Site Settings permissions

Read this before you grant

Unlike Site Manager permissions, these aren’t scoped to a group: they apply across your whole site. A full administrator can change how your site is set up, and ‘Template Access’ allows code-level editing of your site’s design, where one wrong edit can affect how every page displays. Keep both to the shortest possible list of people. If you need help with your site’s layout, raise a support ticket rather than handing out template access.

  1. Log in to your web office and click the settings cog on the far left to open Site Settings.
  2. Select ‘Permissions’, then ‘Site Administrators’. A list of the people who already have permissions here will appear.
  3. Click the blue ‘+’ icon at the bottom right of the screen (or use the task at the top right).
  4. Find the person you want to add and click their name. The page refreshes with them in the list.
  5. They’re given ‘Full Administrator’ by default, and this automatically assigns two design permissions as well: ‘Theme and Layout’ (our older design area) and ‘Modules’ (adding Hubb modules, like a calendar or audio-video feed, to web pages). Untick anything they don’t need.
  6. Add the optional extras only where the person’s role calls for them: ‘Finance’, ‘Reports’ or ‘Template Access’.
  7. Save the page.

Good to know

  • ‘Finance’ opens the finance area of your Hubb system: managing transactions, importing offline giving and handling Gift Aid. Treat it with the care anything money-related deserves.
  • ‘Reports’ simply switches on the reports area for that person, which is a safe one to grant to anyone who needs the numbers.
  • For everyday help like editing web pages or running rotas, Site Manager permissions on the right group are the better fit. See How to give someone Site Manager permissions, or start with An Introduction to Permissions if you’re new to how it all fits together.
