How to update your privacy policy

Your privacy policy tells visitors how your church uses their personal data, and Hubb lets you edit it yourself. Your site comes with default wording, but it’s your policy, so it’s worth making it say exactly what your church actually does. This guide shows you where to change it.

Updating your privacy policy

  1. In the web office, go to Site Settings, then Users, then Privacy Policy.
  2. Edit the wording so it reflects how your church collects and uses personal data: what you hold, why, and who to contact about it.
  3. Save your changes. The updated policy is what visitors see from your website.

Good to know

  • Data protection law expects privacy information to be understandable and accessible, not buried in legalese. The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) publishes plain guidance on writing privacy notices, and it’s the best place to start.
  • Your default consent question wording can reference your privacy policy, so people see it at the moment they’re asked to agree; see how to set up consent questions and mailing channels.
  • Your policy is your church’s responsibility, and this guide isn’t legal advice; if you’re unsure what yours should say, the ICO guidance or your denomination’s data protection resources are the right port of call.
