Hubb never sends anyone a password by email. Instead, people receive a secure link to set or reset their password themselves. That link is added to your system emails by a placeholder, and if the placeholder goes missing (usually after a template has been edited), people can’t log in. This guide shows you how to check yours.
Checking the password links in your system emails
-
In the web office, open Site Settings, then choose System Emails on the left.
-
Open each of the three emails that carry a password link: the Welcome Email (sent when someone is first registered), Password Reset (sent when someone forgets their password) and Login Reminder (sent to people who haven’t logged in recently).
-
Check each one includes both placeholders, in a block like this: “Your login name is: {recipient.login_name} To set your password, click the following link: {recipient.change_password_url}”
-
Read the email through to make sure it still makes sense around the placeholders, then save any changes.
Good to know
-
When someone receives the email, the placeholders are replaced with their real login name and a working link, so don’t worry that they look like code in the template.
-
Templates that have been heavily edited, customised or translated are the ones most likely to have lost a placeholder, so those are worth checking first.
-
These emails come from your site email address; see how to change the address your site’s emails come from if that needs updating too.
