How to show media on a page of your website

Once your media is uploaded, the next job is putting it in front of people. Hubb has three modules for this: the media list for recordings and documents, the gallery for slideshows, and a simple link for a single recording.

Showing media on a page

  1. To list recordings or documents automatically, add a media list module to the page: open the article in the editor, click where the list should go, select the ‘Module’ icon and choose the media list. Our module guide covers the general steps.
  2. The module’s settings are one scrolling form. Choose what to list (audio/video recordings or document files), the group or media folder to draw from, and the ordering: publish date, alphabetical or recording date. The list keeps itself up to date as new media is published.
  3. For a slideshow of photos, use the gallery module instead, pointed at a media folder of images, with its format set to ‘Slideshow’. The images work best when they’re all the same shape, so crop them to a consistent size first.
  4. A gallery can also work as clickable panels by giving each image in the folder its own link, which is great for promoting events from your homepage.
  5. To link to one specific recording from your text, create a link as normal and choose the audio or video recording option when selecting what to link to; clicking it opens the recording in a media window.

Good to know

  • A media list on a group’s homepage means new uploads appear there with no editing at all, which is the low-effort way to keep pages fresh.
  • Modules only show media the viewer is allowed to see, so restricted files stay hidden from visitors.
  • A slideshow with a separate media folder per purpose (homepage banners, event photos) keeps the right images in the right places.
  • The media list can also show a link to your RSS feed for subscribers; it’s an option in the module’s settings.
