How to show events on a page of your website

Your calendar holds the events, but people find them through your pages: a youth page showing youth events, a homepage showing what’s on this week. There are two ways to surface events on a page, and they work well together.

Showing events on a page

1. The main tool is the calendar module, which you can drop into any article. Open the page in the editor, click where the events should appear, select the ‘Module’ icon on the toolbar and choose the calendar module. Our module guide covers the general steps.
2. In the module’s settings, choose where its events come from: the current group, the whole site, a specific group or a tag. A youth page pointing at the youth group is the classic setup.
3. Save and preview: the list keeps itself up to date as events are added, so the page never needs editing again.
4. To link to the full monthly calendar instead, link to the calendar page on your site (it lives at /Calendar/Month.aspx if it’s not already in your menu).
5. For a link to a monthly calendar filtered to one group, open the monthly calendar, use the group selector at the top to set the view you want, then copy the address from your browser. That address takes people straight to the filtered view.

Good to know

• The module only shows events the viewer is allowed to see, so members-only events stay hidden from visitors automatically.
• An event’s summary image and details make these lists far more inviting; a page of bare titles undersells your events.
