How to edit form fields and make them mandatory

Once a form is built you’ll sometimes need to adjust it: rename a field, change the options in a dropdown, or make a question compulsory. All of that happens through the field’s properties.

Editing a form field

  1. Open the form’s article in the editor (select its group, open the Documents tab and click the title).
  2. Move your cursor over the field you want to change and right-click it (Ctrl and click on a Mac).
  3. Choose the field properties option from the menu, for example ‘Text Field Properties’.
  4. Make your changes. Ticking the mandatory option means the form can’t be submitted until that field is filled in.
  5. Click ‘OK’, then ‘Save’ in the editor.
  6. Test the change on the live form. For a mandatory field, try submitting with it empty and check the form stops you.

Good to know

  • Radio buttons work as a set when they share the same name, so give each button in the group the same name and its own value.
  • Renaming a field starts a fresh column in your responses, so it’s best done before a form goes into use rather than partway through.
