How to install the church app on your phone

Your Hubb app is a progressive web app. It installs straight from your website rather than from the App Store or Google Play, so there is nothing to download, no store listing to maintain and no approval to wait for. It is also why the last step looks slightly different on an iPhone and an Android phone.

Installing the app

1. On a phone, open a web browser and go to your website address with /app on the end. For example, thetownchurch.org.uk/app.
2. Tap the green Install the app button.
3. Follow the prompt your phone gives you. The wording varies between phones, but the result is the same: the app lands on the home screen with your church’s own icon and name.
4. Open it and log in. People can look around without logging in, but anything members-only, and notifications, need a login.

Good to know

• The /app address is the one to put on your notice sheet, in emails and on social media. It works on a computer too, though the install button only appears on a phone or tablet.
• You can also invite people to install the app while they are browsing your website. In the web office, go to Config, then Apps, and switch on the option to show the install prompt on your site.
• The app takes its name, icon, colours and welcome message from the same place, so it looks like your church rather than like us.
• Because it is not a store app, people always have the current version. There is nothing for them to update.
• If someone says the install button never appears, check they are using a normal browser window rather than a link opened inside Facebook or another app, and that they are on the /app address rather than the homepage.
