Recordings often arrive with names like ‘sunday_am_final_v2.mp3’, and those names end up on your website unless someone tidies them. Two minutes of housekeeping makes your sermon library look cared for.
Tidying a recording
-
Look at your sermons page as a visitor would: click a recording and see what the media player shows. Unfriendly file names and titles stand out immediately.
-
Log in to your web office and find the recording on the group’s Media tab; the quick find at the top of the screen helps if you know its name.
-
Click the recording to open it and check the title reads well: the sermon’s name, not a filename.
-
Expand the Files section and rename each file to something plain: ‘Sermon Audio’, ‘Sermon Video’, ‘Sermon Notes’.
-
While you’re there, check the speaker and date are filled in; they’re what people scan on the sermons page.
Good to know
-
Renaming a file’s display name doesn’t change the actual file, so nothing breaks.
-
The easiest fix is prevention: name things properly during upload and this guide becomes redundant.
