Backup your Site Design
If you’re editing a template on your site, it’s worth making a copy to work on first, so you can revert to the original if you realise you’ve made a mistake after saving. We’d also recommend previewing before you save, and quitting without saving if the result isn’t what you intended. It’s a good idea to keep a copy of your live template after your changes too, just in case anyone makes unwanted changes in future.
Copying a template
There are two ways to copy a template. A ‘Linked Copy’ gives you just that layout and shares the assets with the other templates in the group. An ‘Independent Copy’ also copies all the assets that go with the template, such as its images and CSS files.
- Go to the Site Design area under Settings. If the Template section doesn’t open straight away, click the Template tab at the top.
- Find the template you want to copy, and click either ‘Linked Copy’
to copy just the layout, or ‘Independent Copy’
to copy the template together with all its assets.
